Once you have made your asylum application in Finland, you will be placed in a reception centre to wait for your application to be processed. Asylum applications are usually handled in order of their arrival. If, however, you are seeking asylum solely for economic or health reasons, for example, your application will be processed more quickly than others, and the end result will be a negative decision.
The Finnish immigration service will contact you if you are invited for an asylum interview or if further information is required for your application. In other cases, you will not be contacted until a decision has been made. Telephone enquiries, e-mail enquiries and visits to service points will not speed up the process.
Processing your application and investigative work take several months. In the asylum interview, you will be given an estimate of when you will receive a decision on your asylum application. However, the time required for processing an individual application is difficult to estimate exactly. The processing time is influenced, for example, by whether it is necessary to request additional information for your application.
